The curfew announced by the Government of Kenya on 27th March 2020 and eventual lockdown of Nairobi, Mombasa, Kilifi and Kwale on 7th April 2020 has had a major effect on overall business in the country. While these drastic measures are rightly intended to contain the spread of Covid-19, the effects have been far reaching.
As Water for the World, we have made extra effort to stay in business and provide much needed services, seeing as water has become an increasingly useful, yet rare commodity in the era of enhanced hygiene and handwashing.
Although in general contractors have not been officially classified as essential services, we have managed to continue mobilizing equipment to sites while taking extra caution to ensure our crews, suppliers and communities remain safe.
Sensitizing stakeholders on hand-washing and use of sanitizers, protective equipment such as masks and physical distancing are some the measures we have introduced to minimize spread of the virus.
On 14th April 2020, W4W drilling and installation crews mobilized from Nairobi to Eldoret to attend to a client whose borehole had unexpectedly failed. The journey was eventful with numerous police checks and roadblocks along the highway. Negotiation and patient persuasion enabled us to get cleared to pass through.
Going out of our way to serve partners and clients remains our commitment. It is our hope that the situation will return to normal soon and post Covid-19 will provide more opportunities to deliver services and improve the quality of life to many people.
