Bringing a wholesome solution to Mathare

Having drilled more than 50 boreholes in 2019, which was a milestone for our company, it was yet another time to break the long Christmas and New Year holiday and do what we love most, giving life-saving solutions since water is life.

W4W crew mobilized to Mathare after the contract was signed, ready to develop a good project for Mcedo Beijing School. The school is located in Mathare 4B, Mathare Division,Nairobi County, and hosts more than 600 children many of whom come from disadvantaged backgrounds and have to fetch water and carry it to school for basic sanitary use.

Mcedo Beijing SchoolMcedo School followed another successful assignment at ACK Diocese of Kajiado, which marked the first borehole and pump installation for the year, 2020.

Mathare is a cluster of slums and one of the oldest in Nairobi, Kenya, with a huge population of approximately 500,000 people.

The main challenge is scarcity of clean water. Water supplied by the local authority is inadequate and expensive. The mission of Water for the World is to provide sustainable water and energy solutions to such underserved populations.

W4W Crew

Despite difficulties in accessibility it took the crew three days to drill a total of 200 meters and secure a yield of more than 8,000 litres an hour, a major reprieve to the community. The borehole pump will be powered by a solar system making it affordable for the community to use and manage. It is also good for the environment.

We wish to thank our partners particularly Helping Hands International, Project Chance (Africa), World Ministries Internationalamong others for giving us a chance to be part of the solution and bring dignity in life.
